Noelle Andrew is back from her travels and service in Haiti. She left here Friday, June 4 and returned Saturday, June 12. Noelle visited a Christian school whose building was destroyed in the quake, and yet, 2 days after, school had resumed. Her team also distributed medicines, as dysentery, malaria and other stomach and intestinal ailments continue to claim many lives.
06/05/2010: A great day in Haiti, worship, networking with people in the mission field, and one adventuresome ride in the back end of a pick up!!
06/06/2010: We are going to work at an orphanage and school tomorrow. Tuesday we will be in the tent camps and then at the police station. I look forward to distributing clothing from Auntie Deb in the morning
06/07/2010: We had a powerful day yesterday as we worked with kids in the orphanage. They are so filled with joy, and hope, and are longing for love. The stories they tell about “the day the earth came alive” are overwhelming, but feeling humbled to hear. We visited a Christian school whose building was destroyed in the quake, and yet 2 days after school had resumed. A strong sense of perseverance is present. Today we are headed to the tent camps, which is run by World Relief. We will begin our assessments/treatments both medically and emotionally. We find ourselves exhausted at the end of the day, physically and emotionally. We are all healthy are ready for the ministry which lies ahead. Thank you for your prayers.
06/08/2010: Yesterday featured a truly sobering trip for the group . . .
They had the opportunity to tour a couple of tent camp sites, and were literally mobbed with folks requesting help and medical care. One of the nurses removed a festering bug from the ear of a one-year old, and the immediate relief on his face brought tears to their eyes. The also distributed medicines, as dysentery, malaria and other stomach/intestinal ailments continue to claim many lives. The need is so great that the group wasn’t able to get off the truck at one of the tent sites as the translators determined that it simply wasn’t safe to do so. People were literally attempting to climb into the truck to seek assistance.
The plan today is to visit additional orphanages and assess the possibility of constructing a new facility to replace several damaged ones. I’ve included a couple of photos from an orphanage visit earlier in the week.
Prayers for the group and for their ministry are deeply appreciated – and thanks to each of you for your continued support!
Love, Peace and Blessings on your day, Noelle and husband Mike.
06/09/2010: Yesterday we traveled to a medical clinic which was established the day after the earthquake. This clinic is sponsored by a US Doctor, and and so along with their medical team we will able to see meet many more needs. I have spent most of my time working with kids, helping them with their trauma and grief issues. In the afternoon our journey was to another orphanage, that was nearly 2 hours away. The needs are great everywhere you turn, and even though we cannot help everyone, we help who we can. Today we will be going to many orphanages, and completing assessments on children with special needs as they will be placed in a new orphanage which is being built. The emotional, physical, and spiritual toll is starting to take affect, so we bask in God’s love for renewal and restoration.
